Jim Woodring

Jim Woodring is an American cartoonist and artist known for his enigmatic subject matter and ingratiating drawing styles. His first regularly published work was the illustrated autojournal JIM, which chronicled his waking and sleeping experiences in text, illustration and comics. His best-known series, FRANK, was created in 1992 out of a desire to tell timeless, placeless metaphysical fables with the cartoonist's traditional tools and visual vocabulary.
Subsequently Frank's trials and triumphs have been documented in over 600 pages of nearly wordless comics published under such titles as The Frank Book, The Lute String, The Portable Frank, Weathercraft and 2011's Congress of the Animals. Weathercraft won The Stranger's 2010 Genius Award for literature and was a finalist in The Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Frank collections have been published in Japan, France, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Holland, and Norway. Woodring lives in Seattle with his family.
